Volunteers

Volunteers are at the heart of Get Up and Grow and we embrace the wide variety of skills, expertise and experience that they bring. Age, ability and background don’t matter, just an interest in getting stuck in whatever role suits you best.

Check out our volunteers below.

If you think you may like to try it, just complete the contact form at the bottom of this page or download our Volunteer Pack and we will be in touch.

Our Volunteers

Without the help and support of a growing number of people, we would not be able to provide all the workshops and projects that we are currently running, so here is a big thank you to our volunteers

Jackie and Dave Watson

Jackie and Dave are rarely seen out and about, as they work behind the scenes. While Dave is caring for the young plants that we will use in our future projects, Jackie keeps very busy assembling our activity packs.

It would have been a struggle for GUAG to maintain their services during lockdown, if it wasn’t for these two hard working volunteers. They put together hundreds of our activity packs and supplied all our plants.

What Jackie and Dave say: “We are happy to support such a worthwhile business. Volunteering keeps us active and healthy”

Jane Brown

Jane has been volunteering with us for over a year now and has proved to be an asset to the team.

She is just at home in the kitchen as she is in the outdoors and has a wealth of gardening knowledge.

Leanne Peers

Leanne has worked in her own community as a volunteer for many years. She has recently begun to volunteer for GUAG and has been a genuine asset to the company. She is enjoying completing the training that we have provided for her to do and looking forward to the opportunities that this will create for her.

What Leanne says: “I love working with people and bringing communities together”.

Mick Walker

We are fortunate to have the help of this great volunteer, as he volunteers with several other organisations.

Mick likes to keep busy, so we try to provide enough jobs to do just that.

Shamahad Ash

Shamshad has joined us just in time to bring her energy and enthusiasm to the garden at The Willow Dementia Hub. She has a wealth of experience and expertise and is making quite a name for herself already with her wonderful chutney recipes. Shamshad tells us that she ‘just likes to keep busy’. We are looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months brings.

Louis Tweedale

Louis is our newest volunteer, he is a great help with his knowledge of IT, but has also shown us that he is not scared to get his hands dirty.

Claudia Roman

Claudia is a qualified psychologist who is keen to support our therapeutic workshops and has shown a talent for working with children. Claudia grew up in a family that enjoy gardening, so has some great knowledge and experience. She has a great sense of humour and has impressed us with how quickly she has mastered the English language.
