Friends of Get Up and Grow

Behind the scenes, we have a team of enthusiastic friends and supporters who can be relied upon for specialist advice, help or general dogsbody running around. We are forever grateful for the push in the right direction that they give us and would especially like to thank;

Emma Dickinson

Emma has been teaching for over 20 years and has been able to use her experience and expertise to help shape the courses that we run for school children. Her input has been invaluable in ensuring that our courses are aligned with the national curriculum and that there are tangible benefits for young people taking part. Currently studying for her Masters in Education, Emma is a whizz on online learning and is helping us develop our e-learning packages.

Rob Glen

With more than 15 years’ senior level experience in the voluntary sector, Rob has followed and supported the work of Get Up and Grow for several years. Rob has specialised in the world of grants and funding and is passionate about co-design and ensuring that the views of the community and key stakeholders are at the forefront of business planning.

Justin Garrity

A keen horticulturist and allotment owner, Justin knows his onions and has been a guiding force in helping the business develop. Always ready with an idea and advice, Justin supported our founder Michelle in getting started and is really proud of the strong foundations that she created. One more seed to grow.

Dr Mike Hardman

Mike is the Senior Lecturer in Urban Geography at the University of Salford, his main areas of research Urban Agriculture, Sustainable Cities, Planning, Green Infrastructure and Food Security. His support and guidance has helped to deliver one of our most exciting and varied projects as well as creating many new and challenging initiatives.

Lydia Hubbard

Never fear, Lydia’s here! Committed and knowledgeable, Lydia is our go-to when the going gets tough. Whether it’s research, opportunities or IT glitches, Lydia has the solution to everything and magically makes things happen.

Studying an MSc. Sustainability at University of Salford instigated Lydia’s advocacy in how nature can positively restore wellbeing for both humans and the environment. Lydia is now a Research Assistant for the University of Salford, working on wellbeing projects including the Get Up & Grow project.

Louis Tweedale

Louis is a calm, stabilizing influence on all things techy and at the touch of a button or two, can get things back on the straight and narrow. Like the look of the website? Thanks Louis for all your help and heftily pushing us in the right direction !

Laura Augustine

Laura has been overwhelmingly supportive in making sure that we get all our paperwork right so we can keep on getting funding for our courses and workshops. We literally wouldn’t be here without Laura’s help so thank you for finally getting us there!
